Methods for Teaching Additional Language Learners (ALL) |
Methods for Teaching All contains information and examples that are intended to provide a brief overview of the history and evolution of methods for learning languages and the contribution these approaches have on present day second language acquisition. (SLA)
The information in this website is based on the text Teaching by principles: An interactive approach to language pedagogy written by Brown, H.D. & Lee, H. (2015). |
Historical Foundations for Additional Language Teaching and Learning (ALTL) includes the early history of language studies and the beginning of change based on observation and new understanding of how language is learned. Communicative Language Teaching and Ecclectic Dynamics focuses on changes that resulted from theories about social learning and developmental language acquisition. Discovery learning and natural approaches shaped the evolution of language learning methods. The post-method era produced an eclectic approach for teaching and learning with regard to the purpose or goal of learning and the composition of groups of learners. Finally, Current Methods for SLA Bases on Principles considers eight principles that guide approaches for ALTL.
